DPP fires Secretary General and endorses Peter Mutharika for 2014
The ruling DPP has fired its Secretary General Binton Kutsaira and replaced him with Wakuda Kamanga. No reasons have been put forward for this change.
The governing council has also endorsed Peter Mutharika as the Presidential Candidate for 2014 confirming what many have known to be President Mutharika's agenda to install his brother as his successor.
Former Finance Minister Goodal Gondwe is back in the limelight and is appointed 1st Vice President with 2nd Vice President and 3rd Vice president as Yunus Mussa and Jean Kalilani respectively.
Deputising Wakuda Kamanga as General Secretary are Isaac Nyakamela, Etta Banda
Prodidgy Ken Zikhale Ngoma is back as Campaign Director and MCP rebel Abel Kayembe has been apointed into the governing council.
There was no mention of notable names of Ken Lipenga and Henry Phoya in the line up and no more information has been given over what transpired at the meeting on Sunday.
Despite claiming to be democratic and being progressive, since its inception more than six year ago, the DPP has never held a convention to elect office bearers and all positions are appointed at the whim and service of its president, Bingu wa Mutharika.
Its not surprising that President Mutharika wants to rule the country the way he lords over the DPP.
Two weeks ago, the DPP youth brandished machetes in the streets of Blantyre to instill fear into Malawians who wanted to demonstrate against Mutharika poor political and economic governance.
Malawians, however defied the threats and went onto the streets to protest and delivered a petition to the deistrict commissioners asking for change in the political and economic policies of Mutharika's regime.
