Ernest Mtawali appointed Malawi football coach
Ernest Mtawali has been appointed as the new Malawi senior national football team, the Flames, head coach on a one-year renewable contract.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu unveiled Mtawali alongside his assistant Nsanzuwrimo Ramadhan at Chiwembe Technical and Development Centre, Blantyre on Saturday morning.
Nyamilandu told the press that Mtawali had been charged with putting the Flames’ 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifying Group L campaign back on track and ensuring progression in the preliminary round qualifiers for the 2018 Fifa World Cup.
Malawi kick-starts its World Cup qualifiers against Tanzania next month before travelling to Swaziland for the Nations Cup assignments.
Mtawali said he was excited with the challenge which he described as an honour and privilege and promised to work hard to restored the battered image of the Flames who started the Afcon race with a 2-1 loss to Zimbabwe in June leading to the dismissal of coach Young Chimodzi.
