Zimbabwe beat Zambia 51-49 to win 5-nation netball tournament
Zimbabwe beat rivals Zambia 51-49 in Botswana to win the 5-nation African netball tournament. Zambia settled for second position. The games were organised to replace the cancelled African Netball Championships.
Tanzania, the top rated team at the tournament lost all their games while Swaziland the lowest rated team, came third after posting wins against both Botswana and Tanzania.
The three top African teams Malawi, South Africa and Uganda were absent due to logistics and financial reasons for the case of Malawi and Uganda, while South Africa did not explain their absence.
Zambia who are heading to Australia in August for the 2015 Netball World Cup and Tanzania who are were the top rated team had been expected to dominate the tournament. Tanzania completely flopped, losing all their games to show for their two year absence from the international netball scene, while Zambia succumbed to rivals Zimbabwe in a tight game.
