Heavy rains over the week have rendered impassable a diversion of the Blantyre-Zomba road which is currently under construction.

Roads authority spokesperson Portia Kajanga says motorists connecting Zomba and Blantyre should use Zalewa road.

The road has been completely cut off at Njuli area in Zomba.

Kajanga says the contractor Motor Engil will have to wait for the rains to stop before working on the affected area of the diversion.

“There is nothing we can do as of now, it’s an issue of weather, so we cant say when the rains will stop,” She says.

Zodiak Radio has also confirmed that a shorter alternative earth road going through Chiradzulu has been blocked by trucks stuck in mud.

Since Friday public bus operators have been exchanging passengers travelling between Blantyre and Zomba at Njuli.
