Man arrested for chopping wife's arm and leg
The police at Bua in Kasungu on Thursday arrested a man who last Tuesday ruthlessly killed his 30 year-old wife by completely chopping off her left leg and left arm with a machete.
Both Bua and Mponela police confirmed to Zodiak Online that the arrest of Henry Agabu Vunga.
The arrest puts to rest rumours that the man had committed suicide.
“It is true that he has been arrested by Bua police. He was hiding at his in-law’s house,” said Kondwani Kandiado, Mponela police spokesperson.
Mr. Vunga killed his wife, Tikhale Benson, with a machete after the two picked a quarrel. It was their ten year old boy who alerted the neighbors, according police.
Gender activists have since described the incident as inhumane and a worst case of gender violence in Malawi in recent memory.
The murder rekindles bad memories of an incident in 2006 when another Dowa woman, Marietta Samuel had both her arms chopped by her husband Herbert Mankhwala – currently doing time at Maula prison in Lilongwe.
Marietta however is still alive and both her arms were amputated
