University nursing students at KCN end hunger strike
Students at Kamuzu College of Nursing in Lilongwe have resumed taking food after they went on hunger strike on Saturday to force authorities hike their food allowances.
Some students told Zodiak Radio that the resumption came after authorities at the college asked “those who wanted to continue with the food boycott to pack and go”.
“Most of us will not afford staying within the campus as the allowance is not enough putting into consideration the increase in food prices,” said one of the student who opted for anonymity.
The students receive K27, 000 per month as food allowance.
The students are demanding that authorities adjust upwards their daily allowances to K1, 350 saying the current daily allocation of K 900 is not enough
