Malawi Queens to play in The Diamond Challenge in August

Malawi and South Africa are great rivals

Malawi netball team will play in the The Diamond Challenge, in South Africa from August 11 to 19 in a tournament that features the top four netball teams in Africa: Malawi, South Africa, Botswana and Tanzania.

The competition will be played in a round robin tournament in Johannesburg and Cape Town and is a South African initiative that seeks to promote and elevate the profile netball in the country.

South African netball team aka Proteas has already been to Jamaica last month where they lost the series 2-1, but this week whitewashed Northern Ireland 3-0.

This week the South African U21 also beat England U21 2-1 and will greatly encourage the southern African nation to continue their preparation to upstage Malawi on the number 5 spot in the world netball rankings.

Malawi netball team, who are ranked number 5 ahead of South Africa at 6, on the other hand have not played any international game since the African tournament in Tanzania in May.

“We are proud of your (Proteas) achievements and have resolved to change this around so when we bid for the Netball World Championships and host it in 2019, we will be able to be number one in the world.”, Mbalula who is South Africa's minister of sports promised the rainbow nation.

Malawi other commitment this year will be in November when they participate in the Fast5 netball series in New Zealand.
