Mzimba Hora MP Rev Ngwira arrested on abuse of development funds

Mzimba Hora Member of Parliament Reverend Christopher Mzomela Ngwira has been arrested for misappropriating funds meant for the Local Development Fund for his constituency.

He was arrested Wednesday July 4 and spent the night in custody.

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police in the North Mr. Isaac Maluwa has confirmed the arrest of the lawmaker who is also Democratic Progressive Party Regional Governor for the region.

``We are currently receiving conflicting reports where some indicate that the law-maker misappropriated money for Local Development Fund while others say the funds were meant for the Constituency Development Fund; we are currently investigating, ’’ said Maluwa.

He disclosed that Mr. Ngwira will be transferred to Mzimba Police where investigations on his case are being conducted.

Mr. Maluwa further explained that ``after the investigations, we will then tell the public the amount of money he has misused.’’

Police are yet to charge Mr. Ngwira, who of late has been very critical of the Joyce Banda administration.
