KIPS restaurant building collapses in Blantyre

KIPS restaurant building collapsed on Tuesday morning in Blantyre. It is feared some workers may still be trapped in the rubble.

Three people are now confirmed dead and 18 more have been injured and taken to Queen Elizabeth Central and Mwaiwathu Hospitals.

President Bingu wa Mutharika has meanwhile directed that the Malawi Defence Force and Malawi Police service join the rescue effort.

Vice President Joyce Banda visited the scene of collapsed building earlier in the morning and expressed shock at the scale of the accident.
